Classrooms

Mixed age/ungraded classrooms encourage mentoring,  motivate younger children as they watch older peers succeed and drive the expansion of language skills.

Older children in our mixed age classrooms have the opportunity to share the work they have mastered. This leadership skill is modeled to them as they were granted the same courtesy when they were starting in the classroom.

Role modeling is the norm for the older children in our classes. Beyond academics, the social skills of an older child motivates younger children. They see positive behaviors and repeat them, an act we see daily in our schools.

Language development is aided by the mixed age classroom. Social interaction offers extended opportunities to practice language skills with children who have a greater mastery of language.  Word choices are improved and broadened and the ability to communicate more difficult concepts grows with those choices.
