The environment at the school is created to be beautiful, healthful, and to be conducive to learning. The emphasis on light and spaciousness, the beautiful rugs and fresh flowers, real plants, and the orderly, inviting classrooms are created to reinforce the child’s natural love for beauty. You’ll notice that we don’t use glaring primary colors to create an artificial sense of cheerfulness. The school uses special full-spectrum fluorescent lighting that not only reduces fatigue, but also (1) increases calcium absorption for growing bones and teeth and (2) decreases staph and strep infections in our group environment. We use piped music that is specially programmed to induce serenity and to facilitate math and reading skills. Our air conditioning systems have a high outside-air exchange rate so that we are not recycling stale air for our children.

When you come into the school, you might notice immediately that there is no key pad entry. This is a considered decision when we realized that virtually anyone can get into almost any preschool by being dressed conventionally and smiling at the gatekeeper. Our alarm system quickly notifies our staff that a newcomer is on our premises – or a short person has pushed open the wrong door.

Sometimes parents are delighted with water at child-high stations. Although hand washing is required by state regulations, the Montessori environment is scaled in every way to accommodate the child. So you’ll also notice child-sized tables, chairs, and commodes.
